A Better Traffic… ohh, sure…
September 21st, 2006 by Stefan JuhlSo today I got a call from a company called A-Better-Traffic.Com Ltd. - Great name for a company isn’t it? Well it was pretty funny since they wanted to sell PPC marketing on Google Adwords. This is pretty much how it went - as I remember it…
Phoner: Hi! Can I talk to the one who is responsible for marketing your website?
That would be me..
Phoner: I’m calling from a company called A Better Traffic. Do you know Google?
Ehm, yes..
Phoner: We advertise company websites on Google.
Okay, do you want to hear what I do?
Phoner: Yes?
I’ve got hundreds of websites which I make a living from. Actually my primary work is focused around internet marketing.
Phoner: Okay?
I actually do a lot of search marketing, including SEO and PPC on Google. I’ve even heard of your company but it’s pretty bad stuff what people say.
Phoner: What did you hear?
Well, I’v heard people complain about you, saying they feel like they got screwed.
Phoner: Okay.. Well what do you think of how I did? This is my first day.
I guess you did okay, it’s just a shame that the product you’re selling is really bad.
Phoner: But I haven’t told you about our product, we just create campagins on Google Adwords for our clients.
Yeah, but you see, that product is really not suited to be sold by an army of phoners. Good PPC campaigns is more than just creating an account with Adwords. There’s the keyword analysis, conversion tracking, ROI meassurement etc. And I also believe that your services are too pricy compared to what you deliver.
Phoner: People only pay per click and they only pay 4 DKK (around $0,70)
You can’t sell PPC ads on a flat rate. The price for a click varies a lot depending on the niche and whether you’re aiming for the competitive keywords or the long tail. You see, if I was from a private hospital then your price would be a sweet deal but I know you can’t get many good clicks for that price. And if I were selling CD’s then your price would be insane and require a somewhere near 100% conversion rate before it would make sense. […]
I then went on about how decent PPC consultants would handle this and how some of them do. At the end she thanked me for telling this and said that she appreciated to hear my opinion. I hope she will re-consider her choice of job and find a decent company to work for instead of A-Better-Traffic.
If you ever get a call from A-Better-Traffic and you get interested by their sales pitch. Then I recommend you to consult with a couple of other PPC companies/consultants. They’ll probably offer you a better deal where you’re much more sure to get value for your money.
Others have experienced that the phoners from A-Better-Traffic pretend to be directly affiliated with Google etc. If you understand danish I suggest you read these posts: “Pas på - svindlere udgiver sig for Google partnere” and “Annoncehajer udnytter Google“.
